The Second Sex part V - Dita Von Teese

To say that I have a crush on Dita Von Teese is neither accurate or enough to describe my fascination for this woman. Dita was born in Heather Sweet in West Branch, Michigan and grew up fascinated by the Golden Age of Cinema, pin-up imagery, and vintage lingerie. She is considered the biggest name in striptease since Gypsy Rose Lee and is credited with bringing the art form back into the spotlight with a new sense of elegance and sophistication.
The way Dita Von Teese treats beauty and style is very empowering for woman. When you look at her you are left with the feeling that it is not about who you are but who do you want to be that matters the most.
In several interviews she says that from a young age she couldn´t rely on the type of beauty portrayed by the media in covers of magazines such as the Sports Illustrated. This didn´t stop her from searching her own uniqueness, spell bounding us with style, sophistication, intelligence and grooming.

Although her appearance plays a key role in her success as a burlesque star/entrepreneur, her looks are only the tip of the iceberg, a physical manifestation of the ideas and messages that this woman,  criticised for some feminists for contributing to a society that overemphasises the power of female sexuality, defends.
Dita is an empowering icon for woman: she shows that beauty can be created instead of acquired, that the way a woman dresses and behaves shouldn´t be dictated by what  man find attractive and most importantly she demystified and owns sexuality showing woman that sex showldn´t be neither a taboo or reason of shame.
Although powerful, her grooming and glamour can blur the eyes of those not farsighted enough to demystify the strength of character that hides behind her perfectly drawn cat eyes and carefully painted red lips.
