The Greeks knew it better, and although some discussion can be done around the topic of their not so democratic society or the undermining role woman played in the 5th century B.C, there is a lot we can retain from this Ancient Society to make our life's better.
Our Health being one of them. Yes, I want to talk and about the importance of taking care of our body not for others but for our own pleasure. I thought for a long time to write about this but I cringed whenever I started on "the importance of having a Healthy lifestyle", why? Because the topic is over explored for the wrong reasons.
Searching online for healthy recipes I came across dozens of crazy smoothie diets, fasting and detox programs that promise to "get you body into supermodel shape in 1 week" and make you "look younger in a month". So why am I talking about Greeks and about our bodies? Because I think we have got it all twisted, we don't allow ourselves to take time in order to change, we seek easy ways and demand magical results in order to look attractive and "healthy" while we destroy our own system, it doesn't make any sense does it?
Having said this, I think it is important to care about our bodies and having explained the conceptions of plastic "healthy living" encouragements that I don't agree with, I would like to explain why I think that we should have respect for our body and treat it in the best way possible feeding and moving it in the right ways and for the right reasons.
The Greeks believed in ARETE: a notion bound up to the the fulfilment of purpose or function: The act of living up to one's full potential. Why should we "fake" a healthy body? when all we actually need is to change what we are doing in order to get results and live up to our full potential. We need to think big and start cultivating life lasting results and not 2 weeks diet miracles. If you want to take care your body and time is an issue I'll tell you that there are flexible ways to change your habits without sacrificing on things that matter such as being with a special person, friends , family and developing a career or your own interest (whatever they might be). Although I have the best intentions it is important to state that I am not a nutritionist and I don't have any professional knowledge in this area, I am only curious about the subject and I can share my own experience: after many years without dancing I wanted to get back in shape so I could take ballet classes and feel confident about my body and my performance. So if what I did can help you with your goal I would be happy to have contributed in some way.
I try to exercise four times a week drink at least eight cups of water per day, have three meals healthy meals and snacks through the day. This is my secret and I try to make it as fun as possible. I decided to get creative in the kitchen and do exercises that I love such as Running, Yoga, RPM and Dance. I think this plan is attainable and respects your body, making it improve its performance rather than starving it to some image of beauty
